What is a location QR code?

A location QR code opens a map pinpoint the moment it is scanned, so people get directions to your spot without typing an address. You can enter exact latitude and longitude coordinates or paste a Google Maps link.

It uses the standard geo: format (or a Google Maps URL) that iOS and Android maps both understand. The coordinates are encoded into a static image, so nothing is stored on a server and the code never expires.

Printing and scanning tips

  • Use a Google Maps link for the most reliable results across all phones and map apps.
  • If you enter coordinates manually, double-check latitude (−90 to 90) and longitude (−180 to 180).
  • Print at least 2 × 2 cm with a clear white quiet zone.
  • Test by scanning with your own phone to confirm the right pin opens.
  • Use dark dots on a light background for reliable scanning outdoors.

Frequently asked questions

Should I use coordinates or a Google Maps link?

A Google Maps link is the most reliable across devices. Coordinates work too, but some map apps handle the geo: format differently.

Which map app opens when scanned?

It opens the phone's default maps app — Apple Maps on iOS, Google Maps on most Androids. A Google Maps link opens Google Maps if installed.

How do I find my coordinates?

Right-click a spot in Google Maps and the latitude and longitude appear. Copy them into the fields here.

Does the code expire?

No. As long as the coordinates or map link stay valid, the code keeps opening the location forever.

Can I link to a place without an address?

Yes. Coordinates work for any point on earth, including spots with no street address.

Will it work offline?

Scanning opens the map app, but loading the map itself needs an internet connection.
